| Supporting Humboldt Scholars
The Humboldt Foundation encourages the lifelong connection to the Foundation and among scholars whose research the Foundation supports. It offers a number of follow-up opportunities to enable Humboldtians to maintain their professional relationships with Germany and with one another. These are some of the highlights.
Renewed Research Stays: Former Humboldt Fellows and German Chancellor Fellows can apply to return to Germany for renewed research stays of up to three months.
Humboldt Kollegs: Funding is available for Humboldtians to organize regional and interdisciplinary conferences on topics of their choice. Humboldtians and potential applicants to Humboldt programs should be among the participants.
Humboldt Network Online: The Humboldt family now has over 25,000 members world-wide. The Humboldt Network Online makes it easy to search for, and to stay in touch with, colleagues around the globe. Have you moved? Taken a new position? Changed your field or specialization? By logging on, you can update your personal profile. The Foundation prefers that you use this method (rather than email or mail) to update your contact information. To log on to the Network Online or to register as a first-time user, click here.
American Friends Support for Alumni Activities:
Our office maintains a database of all Humboldtians in the U.S., and if any Humboldtian wishes to organize a gathering for social, cultural, or professional exchange, please contact the office. We can provide contact information for Humboldtians at a university, institution, organization, or in a geographic area such as a city or state. We can also provide informational materials describing Humboldt Foundation programs and grant opportunities.
The Alumni Council is a standing committee of the American Friends Board of Directors comprised of US Humboldtians. The Alumni Council plans and supports activities that maintain and increase the intellectual and social interactions among Humboldtians in the United States. It works with the American Friends Board of Directors to actively promote the interests of US Humboldtians and to recruit potential Humboldtians, consistent with the American Friends mission. For further information about the Alumni Council grants click here. To apply for an alumni council grant click here.
Proposals for funding should be submitted well ahead of the anticipated event or activity. Significant flexibility exists for the types and events to be funded. The Alumni Council is looking for innovative ideas to support its goals and objectives to the benefit of the family of Humboldt alumni.
Survey of US Humboldtians, Spring 2012: Summary Report is now available!
Under the direction its Alumni Council, American Friends distributed an electronic survey to a random sample of 2,042 Humboldtians in April and May 2012. The electronic questionnaire explored the nature of the Humboldtian's connection to or involvement with American Friends and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, as well as his/her views on the kinds of activities and support they would like to see American Friends provide. The results from this survey will help the American Friends Alumni Council, Board and staff to plan the activities, events and other forms of support that best serve US alumni. View results here. Please note, the report takes approximately one minute to load.
