William Block (1997-98)
Bill is the U.S. Treasury Department's Financial Attache for Latin America. He lives in Sao Paulo Brazil and represents the Treasury Department throughout South America, covering economic and financial issues. Prior to this position, he served as an economist with the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) in Washington, DC and also spent one year working as an economist with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq, focusing on Iraqi economic reconstruction. Bill's year in Germany as a German Chancellor Fellow was spent at the Kiel Institute of World Economics, where his research focused on Germany's participation in Europe's single currency (the European Monetary Union). Lori Gubman (2011-12)
Based at BSW-Solar, the German solar energy industry association, Ms. Gubman will examine alternative policies and programs to support the German solar industry as its current incentives are phased out. Her analysis will incorporate lessons learned from other countries and take a holistic approach, considering synergies with diverse existing and emerging energy technologies. Through written reports and stakeholder outreach, Ms. Gubman hopes to inform and facilitate communication between the solar industry and potential partners in areas such as energy and water efficiency, smart grid, and local government. Prior to her fellowship, Ms. Gubman worked as an energy efficiency consultant at Navigant Consulting, and received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. Victoria Johnson (2003-04)
Victoria is Director of Policy for the National Commission on Children and Disasters, housed within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC. The Commission is a Congressionally-appointed bipartisan body of 10 experts who have been tasked with developing a comprehensive study of legislative and administrative recommendations for the U.S. President, the Secretary of HHS, and Congress to improve those aspects of emergency preparedness, response, and recovery that affect children. Previously, Victoria worked for the New York City Office of Emergency Management during the 9/11 recovery operation and later, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. She began her German Chancellor Fellowship in 2003 at the Disaster Research Unit at the University of Kiel, where she compiled a comparative study of federal security policies for the re-introduction of smallpox vaccinations in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Victoria also received a resumption of her German Chancellor Fellowship during the summer of 2006 to complete her Master's thesis as a guest at the Robert Koch Institut in Berlin. She is a graduate of Cornell University and completed her MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2006. (3/11/09)

William Anton "Andy" Kruft (1998-99)
Andy is working for the Department of Defense near Heidelberg helping coordinate contractors in the European Command. His activities include liaison with the German and Italian national governments. As a Captain in the U.S. Army, Andy previously served as a Liaison Officer in Bagram (40 miles north of Kabul) in Afghanistan, at what was an old Soviet Airbase. Andy was at the 18th Airborne Corps' headquarters for the Provincial Reconstruction Teams and the Coalition Joint Team, working with the central government in Kabul. (5/8/06)

Krista (Johnsen) Mikos (2001-02)
As a German Chancellor Fellow, Krista explored various aspects of how Germany, its European Union partners, and the United States establish and maintain commercial or voluntary product standards. Previously, Krista worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Following her year as a German Chancellor Fellow, after much soul searching, Krista changed careers and became a life coach. She is the CEO of LifeStream Coaching. As a coach, Krista listens, inspires, makes requests, supports and helps her clients clarify their thinking. All of these things assist her clients in spending their life's energies in ways that are aligned with their values. If you are interested in coaching, Krista offers one free, no-obligation life coach session. Krista and her husband have just adopted a beautiful baby from China whom they have named Mei-Li. Sara Catherine Salzinger (2011-12)
Catherine Salzinger will receive her Masters in Criminal Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice this June. While at John Jay, she has worked as a graduate research assistant for the Extremist Crime Database, funded by the Department of Homeland Security, focusing primarily on violent far-right crime in the U.S. Prior to John Jay, Catherine worked as a research assistant for the United Nations Development Programme in Beirut, Lebanon. For her Master’s thesis, Catherine has focused on examining the state of juvenile Victim-Offender Mediation (VOM) programs in the U.S. As a German Chancellor Fellow, she will continue her research on VOM by providing a comparative analysis of German and U.S. VOM programs, utilizing data and resources made available by the University of Tübingen’s Institute of Criminology. Extensive field research will also be collected through interviews with victim and offender participants, as well as interviews with staff, trained mediators and volunteers. Catherine hopes to continue strengthening collaboration between restorative justice researchers and advocates in the U.S. and the innovative work of top researchers, academics and policy makers in Germany. Eden Savino (2003-04)
Eden is a senior analyst in the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) health care team in Washington, DC. At GAO, she has worked on topics ranging from Medicare inpatient hospital payment errors to Indian Health Service HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention services. She has a Master's in Public Policy (MPP) and Certificate in Health Policy from Johns Hopkins University and a BA from Connecticut College. As a German Chancellor Fellow in Berlin, she worked with Hydra, a group active in the formulation of prostitution policy in Europe. (2/4/10)

Mark Vail (2000-01)
Mark writes: “I am an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Tulane University and completed my dissertation at the University of California at Berkeley in 2005. My project as a German Chancellor Fellow, which initiated my dissertation research, involved a study of social-policy and labor-market reform in France and Germany, with particular attention to relationships between the state and unions and employers' associations and their role in the reform process. My research involved extensive interviews with policy-makers and union and employer leaders, as well as significant secondary research into the scholarly literature on French and German politics and welfare reform. A revised version of the dissertation, entitled Recasting Welfare Capitalism: Economic Adjustment in Contemporary France and Germany, will be published by Temple University Press in Fall 2009.” (6/19/09)

Sarah (Wilson) Wiliarty (1997-98)
Sarah writes, “I am an assistant professor of government at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. As a German Chancellor Fellow, I investigated the Christian Democratic Union's (CDU) response to new demands from women. I examined the CDU's policy-making process on abortion policy, work-family policy, and internal party quotas for women. I am working on a book manuscript that examines how the organization of political parties influences their policy choices.” (5/25/05)
