American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Strata Newsletter

The American Friends newsletter, Strata, is part of the organization's effort to share information about Foundation programs and opportunities that are especially relevant to a U.S. audience, to summarize news and developments from the Humboldt Foundation, to showcase the accomplishments of U.S. Humboldtians (individuals who have received grants or fellowships from the Humboldt Foundation), to maintain active contact with all Humboldtians in the United States, and to inform readers of the work and programs of American Friends. Strata is mailed three times a year to all Humboldtians and supporters in the United States.

Why "Strata"?
Taken from geology, "strata" is meant to echo Alexander von Humboldt's life-long career in the natural sciences and also to convey the rich and varied experiences that Humboldtians have during their research abroad. Layers also signify how Humboldtians continue to build upon their knowledge base. Lastly, the name indicates the cohesiveness of the 24,000 Humboldtians world-wide resulting from their common experience with Germany.

American Friends welcomes submissions from Humboldtians and supporters of the Foundation for publication in Strata or on the website.
